Our Vision & Mission
The St. Brendan's Project started in 1984 and set out to address the need for all our citizens, no matter how old or disabled, to have the opportunity to stay in their own area, if that is their wish.
1998 was the realisation of a dream when the St. Brendan's High Support Unit became a reality. When people can no longer live in our community or in our low support houses, they still have the opportunity to stay locally no matter how frail or disabled they are. A continuum of support is provided in St. Brendan's, with a greater degree of care available for those who need it, so preserving personal independence, dignity and personal autonomy as much as possible. We strive for the best individual care and support for all of the residents of our Unit, whilst giving our residents the maximum independence possible at every stage of well being. We believe in freedom of choice for our residents with the maximum possible personal control of one's life at all times.
St. Brendan's Unit is a "not for profit" non commercial community organisation. We aim to continue to serve our residents by ensuring they are an integral part of our local community. We will provide our residents with all the material goods necessary to sustain and nurture them physically and mentally, and we will strive for best quality of life by involving them in the day to day happenings in our community.
We fully recognise that problems will occur, that errors will be made despite our best efforts, and complaints will be received. These problems, errors and complaints will be a valued source of data for improvement. We strive to continuously improve our operations to make life and conditions better for our residents.
We recognise that our older residents have a wealth of life experience and that we can all learn from each other whilst respecting and appreciating each other's point of view.
